About Whole Horse Power and Penny Stone
Whole Horse Power is based upon the belief that looking at the whole equine picture yields greater power in training, problem
solving and creating excellent horse-human partnerships. Looking at the whole picture includes learning about and including various training
techniques, complementary health approaches, understanding the nature of the horse, learning to be a balanced, connected rider, and providing a healthy
environment. All these elements are interdependent and leaving out any one gives less than optimum well being, performance and enjoyment.
Whole Horse Power encompasses teaching riding and trust building horsemanship, doing and teaching several types of body work, TTEAM and Ttouch,
teaching clinics, and providing stable and land management planning.
About Penny Stone
Penny has been an equine professional for 27
years, with Riding Master III, TTEAM, Reiki,
and Myofascial Release certification. Penny has
coached riders to local and regional success in
Dressage, Jumping, Driving, and Paso Fino
classes. Her coaching, training, bodywork skills
helped several horse rider teams to victory in
Endurance and Competitive Trail Riding. She
has shown successfully in Dressage and Driving
and spent countless hours riding the trails.
She also offers horse property planning,
combining her horse knowledge with land
management and ecology to help horse and land
owners create beautiful, productive, "green"
stables, landscapes, and grazing. She
volunteered for the Texas Master Naturalist
program and Selah, Bamberger Ranch for
several years.

Penny has always been especially connected with animals. She was the kid that
animals followed home. She cared for their hurts and explained their thoughts to
the rest of her family. She began riding horses as a child, riding like a free spirit,
often bareback, through the woods and fields.
Her first job was as a veterinary assistant in a 250 cage veterinary hospital.
Since then she has worked either full time or part time with animals. She continued
to work as a vet assistant while she attended Wayne State University majoring in
design. Later, while working as Education Coordinator for the Traverse City
Humane Society she decided to focus on horses.
She attended Merideth Manor International School of Horsemanship, a European
style intensive school, and graduated in 1980 with a Riding Master III certificate
as Dressage major. She then began teaching lessons and training horses. In the
late 80’s she was co-owner and manager of Golden Valley Equestrian Center when
she incorporated Centered Riding into her teaching program. Centered Riding was
an essential part of her English and Western Riding Programs at Northwestern
Mich College and her program for the Leelanau School.
By the early 1970's was already holistically oriented due to her experiences with
massage and chiropractic. When she first encountered Ttouch and TTEAM it was
as a training program, rather than a healing modality. The problems it solved for
her with a group of unhandled 6 month old horses hooked her and she went on to
study for three years with Linda Tellington Jones to earn her Practitioner
certification. She is currently certified Practitioner II and attends at least 1
week long training per year as a co-teacher with Linda or an International
Instructor to maintain her certification. She also writes articles for Staying in
TTouch, the worldwide trade magazine for TTEAM workers. She is certified in
Myofascial Release and REIKI.
Concurrently over the years she attended Dressage clinics with the USDF and
other master teachers to improve her riding and teaching skills. She has been
teaching Dressage and Balance Riding and training horses since 1980 and has
incorporated the TTEAM riding system and TTouch bodywork since 1989. Her
experience and training in these two systems gives her exceptional insight into
the demands, problems and possible solutions for the horse and rider. Her recently
published book “Uncommonly Good Horsesense” makes these insights available to
all.
In keeping with her wholistic viewpoint and her love of nature she has also studied
the natural interaction between horses and the environment. In 2004 she
graduated from the year long Texas Master Naturalist program. She incorporated
this knowledge with her own studies, her years of college education in the sciences
and design, her experience for Barnmaster Barns and her experience in the horse
world to offer horse property planning and stable design. She specializes in
creating horse/human environments that are efficient, safe, cost effective,
beautiful, green and happy for horses.
In 2004 she had to stop riding due to a serious injury and the following severe
arthritis. In June 2009 she had a hip replacement and is now back to riding …and
singing, dancing, swimming, hiking, camping and all the other activities that she had
to leave behind for those 5 long years.
In addition to her horsey and animal related activities Penny is a performer. She
has acted, sang and danced in productions with the Wimberley Players, and the
EmilyAnn Theatre. She and her fellow singers are currently developing a show
with their a cappella group The Distractions. Hopefully some of their music will
be entertaining you as back ground on this site soon.
She is also a photographer and many of the images you'll see on this site were
made by Penny
